Josie Gibson's 30 Second Slim

Ok, I know this isn't Josie's latest workout dvd, but I wanted to talk about the 30 Second Slim as I have been using it for 6 months now and can give a better review of it.

When I started using this dvd I was a Size 12/14 and desperately wanted to lose weight.  One day something clicked and I was in major diet mode, all of a sudden I was motivated and totally committed.  I was calorie counting, reading the labels on the back of packets to see the fat, carb and protein content.  I had never been like this before, but I felt I needed to be doing exercise with it.  Now for me, going to the gym is far too expensive and I didn't relish the thought of people watching me work out.  So I was looking at workout dvds, I wanted one that wasn't an hour long as I knew I wouldn't stick with it if it took up so much time each day.  Then I saw Josie Gibson's 30 Second Slim, her transformation was unbelievable and each level is only 20 minutes long!  So I bought it.  It was one of the best decisions I've made!

Don't get me wrong, the dvd itself isn't without it's flaws.  Sometimes there are silly mistakes, for example, James (Josie's trainer) will be doing certain moves with the legs and will say left, now right, now right, but he will have changed legs and be moving the left.  Not the biggest deal in the world but it kinda bugged me.  Also sometimes he will do an example of the move you will be doing, so you just watch him and then he will start the 30 second interval, but other times you think he is showing you an example but he has gone straight into the interval.

The dvd has different sections, the workout, workout sections, Josie's diet and Josie's story.  The 'workout' is all 3 levels played straight through. The 'workout sections' is where you can pick the level you want to do.  'Josie's diet' is examples of foods she eats, I am a really fussy eater so there wasn't really much on there for me but its handy for those who aren't so fussy.  Finally 'Josie's story', I thought this would be Josie talking about her weight loss journey but it's not, it's videos and photos of Josie but with a woman narrating over it.  And its only a couple of minutes long. It doesn't really tell much of Josie's story.

The dvd has 3 levels.  1 is classed as the easiest and 3 obviously the hardest.  Personally I feel that level 2 is easier than level 1, and i've heard quite a few people say the same.  Each section starts with a warm up and ends with a cool down, I would say to definitely do these so you can move the next day!  The workouts themselves are made up of high intense intervals of 30 seconds to bring your heart rate up, followed by a 30 second active rest period to bring you heart rate back down.  HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) is supposed to be fantastic for fat burning and weight loss and apparently you will keep burning fat for 48 hours after you work out!

At the start of level 1 Josie says the workout will burn the equivalent of an hours jog in calories.  Now on the My Fitness Pal app an hours jog will have burnt 421 calories.  I recently bought a Polar FT4 heart rate monitor (which is brilliant and I will be doing a separate review of), I used this the other day while doing the dvd and was shocked to see that I only burnt 135 calories!!

Ok, so six months later, I have been doing the dvd 3-4 times a week (with the odd week off for Christmas and my birthday).  I have lost 2 stone and am now a size 8!  I love this dvd, I honestly don't think I would have lost as much as I have without it.  It's only 20 minutes long, this includes the warm up, the work out and the cool down. So it's easy to stick to and do after work without it eating into your evening.  3 of my friends have even bought it just because of how much weight they've seen me lose.

I would definitely give this a go and because it isn't the latest dvd Josie has out, i've seen it in shops for £5 (i paid £15).

If you want to know anything else about the dvd please ask :) x

  1. Do you do all 3 levels in one go now? Or just the hardest level?
